Tesco Pay Claim before Labour Court

Monday 18 April 2011, 10pm

A claim for pay increases at Tesco, which were due under the now defunct national pay agreement, the Transitional Agreement, is to be heard by the Labour Court next month.

Tesco has not paid either phase of the now defunct agreement. The company and its unions, Mandate and SIPTU, agreed at a Labour Court hearing last October to engage over a period of two months in relation to pay claims originally lodged by the unions in the context of increases that had been due under the ‘Transitional Agreement’.

No agreement has been reached and the matter has been referred back to the Labour Court, with a hearing date set for May 3.

Tesco is seeking cost offsetting measures, such as a reduction in overtime premium, to ensure that any pay increase is cost-neutral.

Members will be updated accordingly.
