Western Division is successful in shaping Mandate policy.

Wednesday 28 April 2010, 06pm

At Mandate’s recent Biennial Delegate Conference (BDC), the Western Division’s elected delegates were successful in having their motions carried. Consequently these four motions are now part of Mandate Trade Union’s official policy.

The four motions in summary call for:

1.      Breast Check to be available to all women over the age of 40,
2.      Modernisation of the Social Welfare System to facilitate contemporary part-time work patterns,
3.      Proper implantation of the European Directive on information and consultation for all workers and
4.      That all employers’ audited accounts be made public and particularly in the retail sector to protect consumers and retail workers’ interests alike.

It will be the responsibility of the newly elected National Executive Council (NEC) to pursue these policies through the democratic structures of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU), with the current and future Governments and if necessary the  European Union’s legal and political structures. The NEC will be required to report back to the next BDC the success or otherwise of their campaigning.

I would like to congratulate the Western Division’s delegates who have successfully put these policies in place.  Furthermore I wish to record the Western Division’s appreciation of the support given by those delegates from around the county that spoke in favour of these motions.
